WEEKLY REFLECTIONS

History Lessons

While I wouldn’t consider myself a history-buff by any means, I do enjoy learning about historical events.  Finding out the cause of the event always helps me to answer the question of why that event happened.  Whether it’s the beginning of wars, tragic events, rising and falling of nations, or even some potential conspiracy events, I’m always up for a good documentary or TV series that gives me that information.  Recently, I’ve enjoyed series done on TV that show major events that happened within recent decades.  Living through the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s as a kid and college student, I can’t say that I paid too close attention to political and international issues.  So series like those fascinate me as I hear people discuss world-altering events!

One consistency about history that interests me is the way that one event effects the next one, and the next one is affected by the one before…like falling dominos!  What would rock and roll music have been without Elvis Presley?  What would the 60’s and 70’s have been like without the Vietnam War?  How would the history of our country have gone is John Kennedy, Martin Luther King Jr., and Bobby Kennedy not all been assassinated within the span of 5 years?  The future changes when events of the past happen which leave a drastic impact.

One change we can all decide to make that will have a drastic impact on the future is to decide today to be a verbal and visible witness for Jesus.  By being intention to talk to people you know and people you don’t know about what Jesus has done in your life and what He can do in their lives, you may radically alter the future of that person!  Another change we can all make is finding any opportunity to be part of ministry at CBC.  There are current and upcoming opportunities that simply require a “YES” from you!  God can do wonderful things in our future if we will first give Him the mistakes of our past, then give Him our resources in the present!  Find ways to have an impact on others today.
