WEEKLY REFLECTIONS

VBS Success!

Church members ask all the time during VBS, “How’s it going?  How many kids do we have this year?  Has everything gone smoothly?”  Those questions, along with countless more, are ways for us to wonder if VBS is a success.  We want to know if the time, money, energy, preparation and decorations are all worth the five nights spent teaching, singing, making crafts and eating snacks.  While the easy answer is to say “Yes, it’s worth it” whenever I’m asked, the best answer is harder to come by.

Whenever we do ministry of any kind as a church, we have a few non-negotiables that help us see if what we are doing is worth it.  If what we are doing is about Jesus and pointing others to Jesus, if what we are doing involves the people of God investing in and serving others, if what we are doing is using God’s resources to do Kingdom activity, and if the gospel of Christ is being shared, then what we are doing is always worth it!  The ministry activity may not have hundreds and hundreds show up, or it may not have dozens of immediate gospel responses, and it may not show instant fruit to our efforts, but as long as we are following Christ and helping others to follow Him, then whatever results may come are left to God!

VBS has been a wonderful success because there have been kids here who need to know Jesus, and they’ve heard about Jesus.  VBS has been a success because God’s people are serving, praying, supporting and have been involved. VBS has been a success because we are making a Kingdom impact in our community, and in the lives of families who need Jesus!  Thank you for all you have done, how you’ve served, how you’ve given, and the times you’ve prayed to make this year’s VBS a success in the eyes of God!
