WEEKLY REFLECTIONS

It All Makes Sense!
In a recent article, I read, “With Holy Week upon us, a new BBC poll found that fewer than half of Christians in the U.K. — 46 percent — believe Jesus died and rose again for the forgiveness of their sins. A BBC Radio program that aired Sunday said the online poll was taken in early March and surveyed British adults. The host said the results raise the question: “How much of the traditional Easter story is actually optional for Christians?” The program aired commentary from Dave Tomlinson — an Anglican priest and author of “How to Be a Bad Christian … and a Better Human Being” — who said the reason why it appears fewer people believe the traditional Easter story as the Bible presents it is because “it just doesn’t make sense. I think it makes God out to be some kind of weird monster, really,” Tomlinson said, adding that he sees some Evangelicals also questioning the Easter story and Christ’s atonement for our sins.”

This article did not surprise me, but it did make me sad for the condition of faith in Jesus around the world.  The entirety of our faith, our life and our eternal life depends upon the cross and the empty tomb.  Jesus died on the cross, which is the single most provable fact in history.  And Jesus walked out of the tomb on that Sunday morning, after which He appeared to the women, the disciples and over 500 brothers at the same time!  The basics of the Christian faith are solely dependent on the cross and empty tomb, which is why we rejoice with believers all over the world this weekend to remember what brings us hope and life now and forever!  “Because He lives, I can face tomorrow!  Because He lives, all fear is gone!  Because I know He holds the future.  And life is worth the living just because He lives!”
