WEEKLY REFLECTIONS

Lead Me To The Cross
“The End of the Beginning”
As a kid, my parents loved taking our family vacations each summer in the Smokey Mountains.  We would ride along the Blue Ridge Parkway, take lots of pictures of the beautiful scenery, and occasionally stop and get out of the car.  When we would stop, most often there was a little brown sign with yellow letters that would give us the name of and the distance to a waterfall.  And so, the journey would begin!  We would walk the trail for what seemed like hours (even if it might have just been 10 minutes) up and down a long trail to stand and see a waterfall in the middle of the Smokey Mountains.  Seeing the waterfall was always fun, and taking pictures made it memorable…but the journey wasn’t over just yet.

After standing at the waterfall for a while, we all knew that we still had to follow the same trail back to the car!  So, the walk was only halfway over.  One of our favorite things to do on the way back down was to find the exhausted families walking toward the waterfall, and tell them, “You’re almost there!”  We would be a source of encouragement to let them know that you can survive the journey, enjoy the view and make it back down the trail.  We’ve been there and done that!  Jesus had one last supper with the disciples, and let them know that the cross was only “the end of the beginning.”  After His death, burial and resurrection, something brand new would just be beginning!  And He assured them that, although He was going to die, new life was ahead!  Let’s make sure this Sunday, as we celebrate the Lord’s Supper, that we focus on His death, and remind ourselves of His glorious second coming!
