WEEKLY REFLECTIONS

God’s Exchange Policy

Have you ever been given a gift that you couldn’t wait to exchange?  I have to admit that I am a terrible gift receiver, and probably let my face reveal how I feel about the gift someone gives me!  I really enjoy giving gifts that I hope people will like, so I would much rather be a giver.  So there have been plenty of times that I’ve received a gift and thought, “Why in the world did they buy this for me, and think I’d like this?”  And the terrible thing about me receiving a gift that I don’t like is that I’m very unlikely to return it or exchange it!  The concept of “re-gifting” is amazing to me!

There are gifts that God gives to us that we will never want to exchange and would never think about exchanging.  The gift of eternal life, His Holy Spirit, the joy of a personal relationship with Christ, the trustworthiness of the Bible, and on and on the list goes featuring all the amazing gifts God gives.  However, there is one gift He will give, but receiving that gift is conditional on giving God something.  Almost like a gift exchange, there is something we must give Him before He can give that something to us.  We must give God our anxiety and worry so that He can exchange that with peace that passes all understanding.  We will never have the joy of God’s unshakable peace as long as we are shaking with our own fear and worry.  Once we turn our anxiety over to God in prayer, He promises to provide peace that we cannot even understand.  If there’s something you’re worried about or anxious over today, exchange that anxiety for God’s peace today!
