WEEKLY REFLECTIONS

Actions Speak Louder
Have you ever said something that you didn’t really mean?  Maybe you’ve told someone, “I’ll be right there in a minute,” and you actually took your time and didn’t hurry.  Maybe you’ve said to your spouse, “Oh wow…you look great!” when you thought otherwise.  (Don’t admit that one!)  Or maybe you told someone, “Call me if you need anything,” when you really didn’t want them to call because you really didn’t want to help them!  Words can be powerful, and carry a lot of weight.  I’m sure there have been times in your life when you’ve experienced that someone’s actions are more valuable than just their words.

Have you ever told someone, “I’ll be praying for you,” and you just didn’t make time to pray?  Have you ever promised someone in the church you would help in some ministry or event, and you really didn’t intend on helping, or you let something else get in the way?  Have you ever told God in prayer that you would obey what He was leading you to do, but you never did follow through?  Actions may speak louder than words, but both of them working together are very powerful.  When we say we will do something, and then we actually do it, we become a person “of their word,” which means we do what we say we will do.  Our actions match our words and become a powerful combination.  In Philippians 2, Paul encouraged the church by telling them what he was going to do, and then followed through with it for their benefit.  We also need to be people who say AND do the right things.  We need to let our actions match our words as followers of Jesus!

CHICAGO MISSIONS PARTNERSHIP
Columbia Baptist has begun a partnership with a new church plant in the Chicagoland area. Led by NAMB missionaries Bryan and Marci Coble, the church is named Sow Chicago. They’re goal is to reach the people of the Irving Park area of Chicago. The area is one of the most heavily diverse communities in the city with 77,000 people in a 2 mile radius.  However, there are no SBC churches and only about 2% are evangelical Christians. Pastor Aaron is planning a youth mission trip to support Bryan and Marci this summer. Please begin to pray for this new church and for the hearts of the people in that community to be open to gospel. A portion of the donations to the new “On Mission” Fund will go to support this mission.
