WEEKLY REFLECTIONS

What Can I Do For You?
Grocery stores, banks, hardware stores, restaurants, gas stations, department stores, hospitals, a help desk in an office building.  All of those places have people trained to either ask you specifically, “what can I do for you?” or to serve you intentionally so that you know they are there to meet your needs.  We walk into those locations with the expectation that someone is going to help us, if we need it.  We have come to anticipate answering that question with some basic issue or problem that brought us to that place.  This is a pretty basic understanding of a lot of the places we visit on a daily basis.  Honestly, we don’t think twice about their question or our answer, because that’s just the way it is.

Unfortunately, every person’s interaction with a Christian should be very similar.  Whenever someone interacts with you, they should hear the question or have some sense that you are going to do something for them as an act of service.  Even if you don’t work in a service industry where you’re required to meet someone’s need, believers in Jesus should have the mindset to serve every person everywhere at all times.  Paul said to the church, “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus…”  If the Son of God can humble Himself to serve you to the point of death on a cross, how much can you do to serve Him by serving others?  How will you meet the needs of others around you today, and genuinely ask, “What can I do for you?”
