WEEKLY REFLECTIONS

More is Better…Right?

Many people live their lives with the assumption that more is always better.  If one slice of pizza is good, then seven slices will be amazing!  If one serving of cheesecake is good, then going back for a third piece is a good idea.  If three days at the beach is good, then three weeks there is even better!  However, sometimes too much of a good thing may not be a good thing.  It might be possible to have too much pizza or cheesecake, and make ourselves sick. It might be possible that too much time on vacation means we’re neglecting our responsibilities back home, or we might lose our job if we don’t get back at it!

More of something can be good, if what we desire more of is always good for us.  More time along with God in prayer and Bible study is always good for us.  More time spent with our spouse and families means more memories together.  More time serving the Lord means more opportunities to make a difference in other people.  So, the challenge in life is figuring out if what we want more of is actually better for us, better for those around us, and better for the Kingdom.  If there are unhealthy and unspiritual cravings in your life, and you find yourself wanting more of whatever is not good for you, adjust those cravings to desire what God wants for your life.  Spend your time, your energy and your resources on what matters the most, and ultimately what honors God!
